Build – Lite was pleased to have recently been involved in an External Wall Insulation (EWI) project as part of a major regeneration project for a housing association in Brinsworth, Rotherham.
Working in partnership with an existing client, Wet & Warm Plumbing in Sheffield, the scheme involved the refurbishment of 24 terraced houses in order to improve their external appearance as well as reduce the resident’s energy bills.
Using EWI offers many advantages. It has excellent thermal efficiencies, effectively wrapping the property in a giant ‘tea cosy’ and offers higher wall insulation u-values than other more traditional insulating methods.
It also looks aesthetically pleasing. One of the key criterion established by Rotherham Borough Council was that the contractors had to match the existing architectural detailing with the surrounding environment.
The solution was to use Stone – Coat, Build-Lite’s unique lightweight alternative to traditional building products. Manufactured off site and easily installed, the product enabled the contractor to replicate the stone features of the property to give a high quality finish and at a lower cost than using traditional methods.
Stone – Coat was used to create new heads and cills that perfectly matched the original and provided a highly cost effective and realistic finish to complement the existing street scene.
The lightweight nature of the product also meant that the installation was safer, in that it does not require the use of heavy lifting equipment, and is quicker to install, both major factors, according to the Contractor, when working in the public sector housing sector.
