The town of Windsor in Berkshire, 23 miles from the centre of London is a thriving tourist town with its famous castle and nearby Legoland – the largest in the world built on the site of the old Windsor Safari Park. It is also a commuter town thanks to its superb transport links. Junction 6 of the M4 is just over 3 miles away, it has two railway stations with a regular service to London Waterloo and frequent bus services to Heathrow airport and Victoria coach station.
It also boasts a vast array of sporting and leisure facilities including horse racing at Windsor and nearby Ascot, horse riding and cycling in Windsor great park, golf at Sunningdale and Wentworth and boating on the River Thames.
It is clearly a very desirable, if relatively expensive, place to live.
A recent project we have been involved with is Victoria Residences, a new build complex of 11 luxurious apartments and penthouses on the outskirts of Windsor. Created by Ascot based Aquapark Developments the building has been stunningly designed to provide a mix of 2 and 4 bedroom apartments and duplex units located in a prime position within walking distance of Windsor town centre and the nearby historic town of Eton.
The design Brief was to ensure a blend of traditional British heritage combined with contemporary design. As you would expect, planning requirements were strict. One of the key ones being to match the external appearance to an existing building further down the street.
The problem facing the builders was that the steel frame construction required a lightweight solution to ensure a perfect profile match.
Using our unique Stone Coat lightweight stone effect product, we were able to supply V-Groove insulated panels rendered in an Ashlar effect to create a finely dressed masonry appearance and all without the high cost or long time frame of using traditional methods.
Stone-Coat is manufactured off-site and then fixed into place using lightweight equipment. In addition to being able to match specific profiles, it can also be moulded into any shape. In addition to the wall panels, we also supplied copings and cornices – all perfectly matching and all fully complying with planning regulations and Health & Safety issues. At Build Lite, we specialise in Stone-Coat Mouldings, offering unmatched knowledge and skill in architectural transformations across the UK.
